I officially graduated from BYU in December with my teaching degree in Physical Education and Coaching. But as I got closer to being done, I got closer to deciding that I really didn't want to have a full time teaching job. I have a number of reasons that I don't want to get into, so instead I'll explain what I've been doing. I enjoyed a number of weeks of relaxation while I was looking for something to do. Obviously getting paid for something would be nice, but Mitch and I also didn't want to start relying on a second income. I also wanted to find something where I could really do good and be helpful.
Towards the end of January we got an email through the list-serve of a family in our ward who was looking for in-home help. After hatching out some details, I started working a few days after getting the email. This is what I'm doing...
I'm working for the Robison's, a family in our ward. They have four kids, and their second oldest, Nellie, has autism. This is how I'm getting paid. A company called Best Home Health Care pays me thanks to the medicare that Nellie qualifies for. But really I help with all of the kids and with anything they need me to do. Usually I work 4 or 5 hours a day Monday thru Friday. I wouldn't consider myself a nanny, but more like a mom's helper.
