Glasses for Avery

At Avery's two-year well visit, they took a picture of her eyes with some kind of machine that tests eyesight and different parts of the eyes. She failed part of it so they sent us to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. At that initial appointment they told us she was slightly farsighted and had astigmatism but they wanted us to wait a year so that she would be older and able to do more.

Fast forward a year later and in January we headed back to the eye doctor and they performed a few more tests on Avery. We found out she still has astigmatism and is still a little farsighted, then came the news that she needed glasses, but only for her astigmatism. I wasn't exactly convinced, but I figured the doctor knows more than me so we'd give it a try. Avery chose yellow glasses and after a few weeks they arrived! It was a slow process getting used to wearing them, but now she does a great job! Mitch was able to come to the follow-up appointment and the doctor was able to convince both of us that the glasses were best for Avery at this time. As her brain develops, the doctor said the glasses will help her brain get a clear picture, full of detail to work with. Our hope is that her eyes continue to develop so that the astigmatism and farsightedness self-correct and her brain is able to fully use all the detail of a clear picture without her glasses. It's a whole new world for Mitch and I but we're getting used to it. It helps that she's pretty darn cute in her yellow glasses too!
